Update Package

For customers running Video Commander Professional Edition with iNED version 1.3 (June 1, 2004 or later), the Automatic Update should insure that you always have the latest PC software and equipment firmware in your system. However, if you have Automatic Update turned off, or your system does not have direct access to the Internet, you can simply download the latest package yourself (and transfer it to another PC if necessary) to perform the same updates.

Installation Instructions

  1. Make sure that no other users are connected to the device server, and that no scheduled events are due to occur within the next hour. (This process should take nowhere near that long, but better to be safe than sorry!)
  2. Make a current backup of your existing iNED database. This is done from the "Database Properties" view in the iNED Browser, or from the "iNED Backup" shortcut in your Start Menu.
  3. Shut down your iNED software.
  4. Download the package file (above) to a PC running the iNED client software version 1.3.
  5. In Windows Explorer, double-click on the package file. This should automatically start the update process. Your client software (on your PC) will be brought up to date.
  6. Start your iNED Browser as usual. Log into your device server. If any firmware within that server or its connected devices needs to be updated, you will see a message telling you this; click the "Update now" button to bring the listed item(s) up to date.
  7. NOTE: you may see an error during this update that file "IRISUDP.DLL" cannot be updated. You can IGNORE this error and continue with the update.
  8. Once all PCs have the new software, you should be free to use all your normal iNED applications (Video Commander, Schedule Lineup, etc.) again.

If something should go wrong...

If the update of the iNED software fails, try the update again. If you are still unsuccessful, and technical support from IRIS is not immediately available, you should uninstall your iNED software from Windows Control Panel ("Add/Remove Programs"). Then reinstall iNED from the last "good" CD or download image of at least version 1.3. (If you do not have an image, download it.) Once the old version has been reloaded, restore your backup. Do not attempt the update again until you have contacted IRIS technical support.

Can I use this update?

This update package will work with any iNED 1.3 installation, from June 1, 2004 or later. If you do not have iNED 1.3 you will need to do a full installation of iNED first, and you may still need to apply the update as well.

Note that there is a problem with the update process if you are updating from the June 1 release, which will update just fine but then indicate that the update had failed when you try to run the iNED software after the update. If this happens, run the update a second time and the problem will correct itself.

What version do I have now?

To determine your current version of iNED software, run the iNED Browser. Click on the IRIS button and choose the "About iNED Browser" menu item. In the window which appears, check the "iNED Manager software" section for the version, and build date, you are currently running.
